Advanced education does not only focus on academic performance. Our school creates opportunities for our students to broaden their horizons, ignite their curiosity, and become lifelong learners. We are midway through the semester, and our students have received excellent results through various competitions.
This spring DAIS/DHS had 149 students participating in AP exams completing 298 exams. We have 60 award-winning students earning various accolades from College Board. The awards include AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, AP Scholar of Distinction and the AP International Diploma We are also proud to announce that 121 AP students (81%) received a score of three or higher during the 2022 administration of AP exams.
AP International Diploma is a globally recognized certificate, requires students to score 3 or higher on 5 or more AP exams and be proficient in at least two languages. The certificate is a strong proof of the breadth and depth of a student's academic ability, and it is also a stepping stone for students to enter a well-known university.
Nine students from our school received this honor, including Tommy Cho, Hanna Cho, Brian Kim, Myungha Kim, Jane Li, Ian Liu, Ein Sel, Kevin Xu and Jasmine Zhao.
Students received distinction for outstanding results in the AMC 10, AMC 12, British Physics Olympiad, Math Kangaroo, Sir Isaac Newton Contest and the High School Physics Prize.
Congratulations to these students:
On Saturday, November 5 Mr. Craig Healy invited students to participate in the Sea Dragon Speech Tournament. Contestants could choose among Original Oratory, Oral Interpretation, Dramatic/Humorous Interpretation, and Impromptu Speech.
The tournament was modelled after High School Speech Events in the US and offered students an opportunity to hone their language and performance skills in a variety of fun, engaging and competitive events. Whether it was crafting and delivering a unique speech, reenacting a famous scene from theatre or film, performing a dramatic reading from a famous work of literature, or battling against time to craft a speech on a random topic assigned to them, students utilized their oral language skills in a way that was engaging to them.
Congratulations to the winners:
This past weekend, our students organized the first Model United Nations Conference (MUN) of this school year with the theme "Embracing Sustainability" and the slogan "solve modern problems with modern solutions". At the end of the conference, students voted for "best delegates" and "outstanding delegates": Spring Bian, Joni Li, JinGang Lin, Misa Irie, Natalie He, Julius Chen, Ashton Liu and Hanna Cho.
