In Huamei, we focus both on the deep understanding of the core curriculum and on the international perspective. Let's look at the recent achievements of our students!
The Math Kangaroo is the world's largest youth math competition for students in Grades 1-12. The Math Kangaroo was started in 1980 by the famous Australian mathematician Peter O'Halloran. Unlike any traditional math Olympiad, which makes an emphasis on high difficulty and challenge, the Math Kangaroo aims to stimulate children's interest and confidence in math learning by using engaging and realistic topics, cultivate students' mathematical thinking, and train students' ability to read, understand, analyze, and solve problems, which is suitable for students of all grades and at all levels of mathematics.
In 2023, we had a total of 13 students win awards, 5 students won silver, 2 students won bronze, and 6 won proficiency award, congratulations to the following winners:
Math may be a difficult and boring subject for many parents and students, but at Huamei, our math will be supplemented by Fun Math to teach and inspire students to learn math in a fun way. Mr. Zhao Yan, the Director of Middle School Science in the Heritage Department, said: "Throughout the teaching process, we have arranged many famous and interesting mathematical activities, and intellectual games, which contain a wealth of mathematical ideas and thinking methods, fully demonstrating the magical wisdom and artistic charm of mathematics, with a view to stimulating the children's interest in mathematics and their desire to explore knowledge. These contents not only consolidate textbook knowledge, but also provide a space for the development of children's mathematical ability and introduce the children to the world of marvelous mathematics."
Huamei Elementary School has designed a series of math activities to cultivate interest in math, exercise mathematical thinking, and stimulate the potential of mathematical ability. The activities are designed to make students explore the mysteries of math more deeply through calculations, group discussions, and mind maps. Recently, we held a series of mathematical thinking challenge activities for students to explore the world of mathematics. The winning team is as below:
Luna, the math teacher in the Heritage Department, summed up the event by saying: " The format of the competition was different from the traditional "one pen, one paper" model. We set up 7 different math- themed classrooms, such as logical reasoning, plane geometry, three-dimensional geometry, etc., and the students were divided into 6 teams according to their grade levels. During the competition, students of the same grade actively discussed and reasonably assigned tasks, both hands-on and brainstorming, and their thinking was well practiced. After completing their tasks, the upper grades were able to help the lower grades, which fully demonstrated the team spirit of the students. I am proud of the students' efforts, growth, and gains!"
