New students experience

There are a lot of new students enrolled in Huamei for this new school year. How are they adapting? How do they spend their time in the new school? What are the challenges? How did they overcome them? 

Secondary: Buddy System

The Buddy program pairs new students with current students who provide a friendly face, helping hand, and first DAlS/DHS friendship that can make a world of difference for new arrivals. Buddies can also offer linguistic support, technology assistance, answer academic questions, and information about life at DAlS/DHS.

Acting as a buddy provides a good developmental opportunity for current students, giving them the chance to develop their communication skills and share their knowledge and experience. This is a great volunteer opportunity to put on applications too! (NHS, College, jobs) 

Elementary: Personalized orientation

In elementary, new students are greeted by the Principal on their first day of school and sent to their homeroom teachers. Homeroom teachers will pay extra attention to new students throughout the day and help them make new friends. After school, homeroom teachers will communicate with parents about the new students' first day of school and customize the most appropriate transition plan for them.
